College Fairs

Counselors should alert parents and students to upcoming college fairs that are being conducted in their area. By attending a college fair, families have the opportunity to speak with representatives from postsecondary institutions and to obtain printed materials and first hand information about the postsecondary schools in which they have an interest.

Although each state may have many organizations that sponsor college fairs from September through May, the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) has annual fairs in 14 states each year. Visit their website at www.nacac.com for additional details.

College fairs are a good way to get sophomores and juniors to begin accumulating a list of potential postsecondary schools that they want to visit or explore. Take advantage of these opportunities by making your students aware of fairs that are being conducted near you.
